Health & Fitness Overview
Promoting healthy lifestyles and good physical fitness to children within our Early Learning Center, After and Out-of-School, clients and residential programs is important to us. We believe that educating children and residents about the benefits of proper, healthy nutrition and physical activity helps them make better choices, and improves the overall quality of their lives.
Focus on Nutrition
In each of our programs, staff conduct tutorials and workshops for children and residents on the fundamentals of healthy nutrition choices. Emphasis is placed on a balanced nutrition plan, limiting sodas, sweets and other treats.
Swim & Gym Options
Our remodeled, regulation-size pool serves as a wonderful resource for both children and adults in our programs to either learn how to swim, or participate in special class offerings. For example, one of our goals is to teach every child in our Early Learning Center how to swim by mid-2014! And some of our Women’s Health Advocacy workshops take place in the pool so that participants can relax, and exercise comfortably.
Our gymnasium is also a busy place for everyone from our preschoolers and after-school children, to the girls in our Girls Center and Girls Lead program. Equipment is available for them to play a variety of floor sports, including hockey, kick-ball, basketball and badminton. Emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship and building physical capacity.
For the Public
At various times of the year, we offer swimming classes for all levels of swimmers, from beginner to advanced, as well as lifeguard courses. For more information on swimming and gymnasium schedules, contact Cesar Fernandez, or call him at 978.687.0331 x060.
A Word About Rentals
We have several academic, civic and community organizations who rent either our pool or gymnasium on a regular basis. Also, our pool and/or gymnasium make a terrific venue for children’s birthday parties! If you are interested in exploring these opportunities, click here for more information.
