The YWCA of Greater Lawrence is pleased to announce the investment of $10,000 by Pfizer, Inc. to fund critical services in our Domestic Violence Program.
Annually, we find shelter for approximately 40 women and their children seeking to escape situations of personal home violence. Additionally, we counsel and provide services to an additional 25+ women who make the decision not to leave their home situations. While funding for a portion of these services comes to the YWCA through a state contract, many services are not covered by the contract. The YWCA, therefore, must raise appropriate funds. Such critical services include housing a women and her children in a safe place until shelter space becomes available [typically 1 to 3 days/nights], providing counseling services during the waiting period, providing food, clothing and toiletry necessities, and providing taxi-service to the shelter location [often at distances of 60+ miles].
Through this investment from Pfizer, Inc., we will be able to keep more than 65 women and their children safe this year, providing them the needed critical services at one of the most traumatic times in their lives.
"We are incredibly appreciative of the partnership between the YWCA and Pfizer," shared Executive Director Rebecca A. Hall. "This investment in our community will yield concrete, positive outcomes for our clients and their children, and Pfizer is showing their commitment to helping eradicate domestic violence through their support of our program."
