As part of our Economic Empowerment Program for women, we are pleased to be partnering with Budget Buddies* to bring a unique, fun and life-changing workshop series to YWCA Fina House residents. [For those who may be unfamiliar, Fina House, is our transitional housing program for survivors of domestic violence and homeless, parenting teen mothers.]
This program pairs a personal, volunteer coach with one of our residents or buddies. Every other week, coaches attend workshops with their buddies, and together, they engage in an informative and useful program on money management. The goal of the series is to build the financial literacy, confidence and security of our residents through these instructional and fun workshops.
This is a wonderful opportunity where you as a volunteer coach will have a one-to-one experience with one or our residents, and have direct impact on her successfully completing the workshop series. Great opportunity for colleagues and/or friends to volunteer together, making it perfect for corporate, civic or other groups.
The Role of the Coach!
The role of the coach is to help her buddy stay on track with her financial goals and progress throughout the workshop series. During off-weeks [when there is no workshop], coaches check in with their buddies by phone or in person.
The workshop series begins Tuesday, October 7, 2014 and runs bi-weekly through Tuesday, March 17, 2015 [no workshop on 12.16.2014].
Coaches are well cared for as all materials, training and support are provided! At the end of the series, a graduation is held where buddies receive completion certificates and coaches receive appreciation certificates!
What’s it Take to be a Coach?
* A willingness or desire to assist a woman looking to improve her life; and no special financial skills are needed!
* A little compassion, patience and good listening skills;
* About an hour twice a month to attend workshops with your buddy [add some travel time!];
* Time to check in with your buddy in between workshops in person or by phone;
* The ability to recognize how much your skills, enthusiasm and energy will make a difference to your buddy!
